Everything started back to 2011, where The Hand and Flowers in Marlow was the first pub to win two Michelin stars, by Tom Kerridge hands.  This was the needed move to make it as one of the best bars to go London!

Meanwhile, in London – the same year – David Collins Studio unveiled its interior for Massimo Restaurant & Bar at the new flashy five-star Corinthia Hotel. Kerridge’s Bar & Grill is a relaxed brasserie-style restaurant dining room with an adjacent bar open all day.  The grand, high-ceilinged restaurant space seats 90 covers and is furnished with a mixture of leather upholstered restaurant dining chairs and deep button-backed banquettes with a dark green and burgundy colour palette.

Along with David Collins Studio, DPA lighting consultants were brought in to complete the bar lighting design. Having previously worked with Corinthia Hotel London on different projects, the team were asked back to create a design that met the needs of the hotel’s overall aesthetic, budget, timeframe and ease of use.

The original design for the Massimo Restaurant and Grill was pastel-toned with a central line of giant glass bauble chandeliers in the centre of the vast room. Kerridge had a clear vision to create a much more personal, intimate and romantic environment for his diners. Aware that the weight of bearing a Michelin status can put some potential customers off from visiting, Kerridge felt it was key to draw inspiration from his pub in Marlow that welcomes all into its comfortable restaurant dining experience.

Upon entering the Corinthia Hotel London restaurant, customers are welcomed by large barrels of real ale that present a sense of familiarity through scent and sight that immediately sets the tone for the dining space. Taking historical inspiration from the Victorian aesthetics, the interior design team decided to paint the vaulted ceiling a deep green, which draws the high ceilings down to a more comfortable human level. It is also in keeping with the architecture of the Corinthia Hotel London, which is believed to be from the Victorian era. Throughout the cosy and rich bar interior design, chunky dark restaurant bar furniture complements the dark green ceiling, creating an intimate dining experience.  Classically proportioned, the brasserie-style restaurant, once a vision of light, beige and creamy tones, has been transformed by David Collins Studio into a darker, more seductive space.

Each area of the restaurant space was carefully identified and allocated a specific bar lighting fixture to suit its needs. Ceiling spots were integrated into large openings to allow each table to be individually lit, ensuring the food and service look good at all times. The architectural spotlighting was provided with narrow beam lamps and existing spotlights were re-lamped to narrow beams to allow for easing focus on dining, artwork and countertops at low levels. Tungsten halogen lamp picture lights illuminate artworks in the bar area and sculptures in niches have miniature LED warm white spot uplights.

The bar design decor scheme was inspired by the F&B concept of unusual botanical extracts and the importance of process in the creation of its singular drinks, which includes a range of signature cocktails and what is said to be the best coffee in Munich.

Juliet Rose bar at Hilton Munich hotel

The bar’s name, Juliet Rose, is taken from one of the most elite roses in the world, developed over a 15-year period by renowned rose breeder David Austin. As well as lending the concept connotations of craftsmanship and the long-term pursuit of perfection, the ‘Rose’ reference will also be easily understood by a local audience as a nod to Rosenheimer Strasse, the street onto which the bar’s dedicated entrance faces, as well as the Rosenheimer Platz metro station, on top of which the hotel stands.

The generously-apportioned, 90-seat, 180 sqm bar is located on the hotel’s ground floor, with easy access from both the hotel’s spacious new reception, as well as via its own dedicated Rosenheimer Strasse entrance, introduced to maximize passing trade. Customers can additionally access the hotel and bar directly from the metro station and an adjacent car park below, arriving via a special circulation route through the ground floor of the hotel, offering intriguing glimpses of the back of the bar through semi-opaque windows, so that the bar is referenced and announced from every possible angle.

SEE ALSO: Dimore Studio interiors – an opulent bar furniture scheme at London

Juliet Rose is made up of four different bar seating areas, each with different stand-out features, plus two bars. The main ‘ceremony bar’ is a stunning, monolithic U-shaped design that guests coming from the hotel entrance see as soon as they enter the space, at the far end of a central approach.

A second, smaller-scale coffee bar is made of the same dramatic moss-green and highly-polished granite, with the choice of material referencing the earthiness of botanical ingredients. The granite for the main bar has been book-matched to ensure dramatic textural veining from the front.

As the existing columns in the space are quite dominant, the design team made a feature of them by using new cladding and mirroring. An existing ceiling was removed so that space’s full height could be used, with a dramatic new lighting structure that uses brass pipes and large, exposed lamps to add to the geometric, laboratory feel. Inset mirrors within the ceiling area reinforce the structure, as well as adding reflection and sparkle.

As well as the overhead grid structure, these include a stand-out ‘test tube’ style pendant light located over the main bar and a number of vertical, glass-clad wall lights, which refer to the test-tube decorative light in style. A number of mid-wall lights throughout feature a circular fitting with a pole attachment to each side. These add layering and create a lower-level light source to bring light to the tables. Flooring throughout features stained oak timber surround and inset panels, made up of a geometric pattern of small white mosaic areas, plus larger slices set at interesting angles.

The four main seating zones include a casual drop-in area, directly to the left of the entrance, primarily for daytime use for coffee and cakes. Further casual bar seating is to the right, whilst the two sections further back and along both sides of the bar, for day or evening use, feature a mixture of seating types, as well as a communal high table, for groups, cocktails evenings and special events.

Furniture throughout bar design area includes sofas in bottle green leather and lose seating upholstered in pale oyster pink or else in deep orange leather with thin brass upstands and dark turquoise seat backs. Tables are either a marble-effect Silestone, a brass-edged timber-topped design or, for the higher communal table, a series of easily-conjoined tables featuring a print taken from a magnified gold-veined leaf print.

In Manhattan’s North of Madison Park neighborhood, the NoMad bar will let you immerse in a magical French atmosphere. This is one of the reasons why we’ve decided to inspire you with one of the best bar decor ideas you can find in New York.

Right around the corner of the already known NoMad hotel, the bar was purchased both as an extension to the hotel and as an independent destination. The beautiful location has been entirely restored by Stonehill & Taylor architects, who have been able to reverse time on the building and to bring it again to its past glory and it certainly is one of the best bar decor ideas you can find in New York.

The place has been conceived as a restaurant interior design concept with a tavern atmosphere, and its interiors create a continuum with the hotel French-inspired design. This can be seen in the use of marble mosaic floors,  in the Persian rugs and in the choice of rich textures and colors.

Manhattan’s Midtown district might not be known for its stylish nightlife, but the recently opened Ophelia lounge bar, on top of the Panhellenic Beekman Tower, is the frontrunner to change all that. Designed by Merchants Hospitality and co-development consultants Public Agenda, the historic 1928 space has been transformed into a glamorous, art deco-infused cocktail bar that boasts panoramic views of the Big Apple and the East River. Occupying the tower’s 26th floor, the 100-seat lounge brims over with intricately restored architectural details, including original windows with preserved ironwork and exposed original bricks. This is just one of the bar decor ideas present on this list.

Seating lines the lounge’s periphery, while a circular outer terrace, decorated with rich velvet upholstered seating and custom black and white tiles, provides ample room for guests to get cozy, while an encasement of 13-foot windows makes the most of the surrounding city views. At the lounge’s north and south ends, two exterior balconies provide opportunities for a breath of fresh air. Rooted at the heart of the lounge is a grand pewter bar. Positioned under vintage lighting and installed with curiosities and memorabilia from the building’s storied past underneath the glass bar top, it is a fitting homage to the tower’s original purpose – a residence for working women.

The Nomad Bar, New York by Stonehill & Taylors

The good folks behind The NoMad Hotel, known as Sydell Group, have strengthened their foothold in Manhattan’s North of Madison Park neighborhood by opening The NoMad bar, just around the corner from the popular hotel. The formerly non-descript building, which once housed a brothel amongst others, has been beautifully restored by architects Stonehill & Taylor to its late 19th-century glory.

Featuring green leather seating and a mahogany-paneled interior, the two-floor bar is a moody, French-inspired throwback to the good life in a bygone age, similar to the hotel’s own design. Accessible via a street entrance or through the hotel’s Elephant Bar, space’s focal point is a majestic copper and wood bar that stands in front of a grand antique mirror that stretches to the top of the room’s 20-foot ceiling.

Patrons on the mezzanine floor can peer down on the action from velvet armchairs and indulge in the bar’s delectable menu of nibbles, such as baked clams and eggplant beignets dressed in mint and yogurt. The cocktails are the real draw though, with everything from the classic to experimental on offer. Choose one of the reserve tipples, which are prepared with an array of rare spirits.

The Transcript Speakeasy bar, New York by The Design High

Anonymity is a difficult commodity to come by in Manhattan, and even scrupulously hidden speakeasies quickly find themselves on the radar of the madding crowd. The allure of The Transcript Speakeasy is that it’s located within 63 Wall Street – the former 1920s HQ of private bank Brown Brothers Harriman turned private residential tower in the city’s Financial District – with access limited to three guests of a resident.

The Transcript Speakeasy bar - Best NYC bar decor ideas

Having just refurbished the building’s main public spaces, Brooklyn-based studio The Design High pulled off a tricky restoration of the bijou nook just off the all-white grand lobby by blending contemporary touches such as velvet bar seating and a customized brass mesh and marble bar, with the original green marble fireplace, wood paneled walls, herringbone floors and chandeliers.

Himitsu, Atlanta by Tom Dixon

Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio has completed its first American hospitality project and it doesn’t disappoint. Named Himitsu (the Japanese word for ‘secret’), the jewel-box cocktail lounge, which can only be entered first by reservation, then with an email passcode, followed by an iris scanner, is bringing top-of-the-line exclusivity to Atlanta.

Aesthetically, the 60-seat bar decor ideas evoke the clandestine nature of American Prohibition with the careful intricacy of Japanese mixology. Realized in a moody palette of rich textures and colors, the lounge bar decor combines pre-existing features like exposed industrial structures with smooth concrete panels, leather banquettes and an illuminated copper bar that appropriately shines the spotlight on the cocktail-making process. Dixon’s Melt pendants hang artistically overhead, while smoked mirror glass and marble tabletops, Scoop armchairs and shiny Etch tea light holders complete the elegant setting.

S&R Lounge at Hotel  Zetta, San Francisco by Dawson Design Associates

Following other bar decor ideas and the opening of Hotel Zetta in San Francisco earlier this year, the hotel lobby area is now ready to be brought into play. S&R Lounge, a two-story bar, and lounge, is designed as a playground for San Francisco’s tech-savvy inhabitants, with a pool table, shuffleboard, Nintendo Wii U consoles and an interactive wall configured after the retro classic Plinko game. As S&R is short for salvage and rescue, Seattle-based Dawson Design Associates has embraced the city’s device in retaining and repurposing the old, including all artworks.

The Roof at Viceroy, New York by Roman and Williams

If there’s one sort of bar we have a weakness for, it’s a rooftop one. So the latest example, unveiled at the Viceroy luxury hotel in New York, has gone straight to the top of our list. Perched on the hotel’s 29th floor and making the most of its Central Park location, The Roof is a gem to behold. In keeping with the rest of the property, the bar’s moody, brass-trimmed bar decor ideas have been designed by Roman and Williams, who used woods like walnut on the ceilings and iroko for the surrounds to create an intimate yacht-like clubhouse in the sky.

Boasting an outdoor terrace that will be open year round, The Roof comes armed with a menu of small-batch spirits, regional beers and a bevy of classic and house cocktails to keep patrons well-lubricated. There’s also a generous menu of bar snacks and bites – a New York cheese plate, black garlic ranch Cobb salad, and truffled deviled eggs – to enjoy while savoring the view, which probably means visitors won’t be venturing far beyond it anytime soon.

Atlas (Singapore) by Hassell Studio

The Hong Kong-based property tycoon CS Hwang loved New York’s architecture, the 1920s-era especially. It was a bent he indulged to spectacular effect when he opened Atlas bar in Singapore in 2002 in the ground floor of his Parkview Square office tower. It was an instant hit as much for its superb wine collection as for its bar decor ideas, a dazzling mash-up of art deco and art nouveau influences that echoed the grander set pieces for David Lynch’s Dune.  A gentle refurbishment of the 15m high eyrie that includes sprucing up the baroque ceiling fresco and the installation of new low-slung leather furniture. The original 12m high wine tower now holds over a thousand bottles of gin, some of which date back to 1910, and beneath that is a rose gold champagne room stocked with over 250 labels of bubbly.

Masala Bar  (Pune, India) by Sumessh Menon Associates

Be it the 16 feet tall glass façade modified to incorporate a series of textured glass fins with a customized print or the striking parametric 3D wall that spans one entire side of the restaurants double-height space like an art collage by blending 2-3 materials together or the larger-than-life light installation wall that stands as a dramatic backdrop to the one-of-a-kind trapezoidal island bar that is touted to be one of the most stunning bars in Pune city, there is pure design ingenuity in every meticulously crafted corner of the restaurant.

The interior space is divided between a double height space that includes the centrally located main bar and dining area and a low height cozy VIP seating area that has been scooped out beneath a mezzanine wall. The exotic stone finished floor space is shelved into three raised levels which add that extra dash of character to the entire space. As a distinctive Menon feature – the central bar that’s been coiled around an existing column is quite a stunning display of backlit glass bar apron with a visually striking abstract design print and polished marble countertop. Even the central column is embellished in silver striations with a bar display suspended on it.
